I always wanted my job to make a difference.
I grew up in Burlington, Ontario, raised by parents who instilled in me the importance of giving more than you take. As a kid, I was always getting involved in one cause or another – starting a Relay For Life team, mentoring new students, or volunteering with our local arts centre.
Helping others always felt like second nature to me. And I knew that I needed to carry that into my career and feel good about the work I did every day.
Then I found out that ‘professional fundraiser’ was an actual job. It was the ultimate ‘aha!’ moment!
Since then, I’ve put my compulsion to solve problems and help others to work for dozens of charities. My specialty is in digital fundraising, and I love the satisfaction of building a fundraising program from the ground up and watching them take on a life of their own.
I’ve also honed my legacy chops, co-authouring You Can’t Take it With You: The Art and Science of Legacy Fundraising alongside my partners Holly Wagg and Fraser Green. I even combined my two loves of legacy and digital together to research what makes legacy web content work best!
I got into fundraising to make the world a better place. And when it comes to my clients, I never stop looking for ways to help them do their good work, better – because I know that together, we’re leaving the world a little better than we found it.
